Born in 1935 in Osaka, Ryuzo Kawai studied stone and wood sculpture at Tokyo Art School. He won several awards: the Rokko Island prize, the United Nations Cultural Prize... Thanks to these different awards, Ryuzo became one of the few artists financially supported by the Japanese corporate world and created many pieces for public gardens, companies and also monuments throughout Japan. The sculptor interprets the opposition between being and appearing, good and evil, suffering and well-being. He highlights human fragility and human strength, perfectly depicted in the explosion of Daum crystal colours.
