The Art Nouveau style, with its nature inspiration, marked the first phase of creation of purely decorative objects at Daum. During the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1900 the Grand Prix was awarded to Daum. Ornamentation became more elaborate and was enriched by new techniques: vitrification, intercalary decoration, application of motifs in relief. Daum clothed electric lighting in glass, working in association with artists like Majorelle. In association with Emile Gallé and Majorelle, Daum created the Ecole de Nancy in 1901, which became the vanguard of the Art Nouveau movement.
